About Cloudless Software

Cloudless Software builds native applications for Android and Windows that store your data locally on your device. We do not operate servers, create user accounts, or collect any data. There is nothing on our end that can be breached, subpoenaed, or shut down. Your data lives with you, not on our servers alongside everyone else's. When every user is their own fortress, the economics of hacking simply don't scale.

We were building around local data ownership for years before we found the Ink & Switch local-first research and realized we had been working on the same set of problems. Their seven principles gave structure to decisions we were already making, and shifted our thinking from an engineering preference to a product philosophy. The principles that resonate most with our work are user ownership of data, the ability to function without any network connection, and long-term durability that does not depend on any company's continued operation, including ours.

Our current products are listed on our products page. We also publish articles on security events and what they reveal about cloud-dependent software. These are written from the perspective of product developers who build the alternative, examining real breaches and vulnerabilities to understand what architectural decisions made them possible and how a local-first approach changes the equation.

Mark Presley, Chief Architect of Cloudless Software

Mark Presley, Chief Architect

Mark Presley has over thirty years of experience in software development. His career spans Fortune 500 hardware and networking companies, a decade of FDA-regulated medical device software where he designed embedded real-time communication systems connecting automated blood processing equipment with hospital blood bank networks, and over a decade leading development on security, encryption, and privacy-focused applications for mobile and enterprise platforms.

He spent six years as a platform lead at a major commercial password manager, where he built and maintained the desktop application, working across the full stack of encrypted storage, key management, and cross-platform sync architecture. That experience gave him direct, firsthand knowledge of how cloud-dependent password managers are designed and where their architectural trade-offs create risk.

Stellar and FunL are products of that history. Having understood the compromises required by enterprise cloud-dependent security architecture, a deliberate decision was made to build outside of it.
